This morning Republican Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald shut down the Legislative Hotline: Statement from Milwaukee Representative Jon Richards

Filed under: Scott Walker — millerlf @ 3:18 pm

Dear Neighbor,

This morning Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald shut down the Legislative Hotline.  The Hotline is a toll-free message service for the Legislature that takes calls from concerned citizens and conveys their messages to members of the Assembly.  It is an easy, convenient and effective way for citizens to stay in touch with their elected officials.

The Hotline is especially important to those who are spurred to action but who may not know who to contact.  The Hotline will take note of their concerns and forward the information to the appropriate office.

I am outraged by the Speaker’s action.  He knows how important the hotline is and how it facilitates contact between citizens and their government and yet decided to shut it down during a time of great need.  Now is not the time to stifle democracy.  Now is the time to open communications and let the voice of the people be heard.

As always, if I or my staff can be of assistance to you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact my office toll free at (888) 534-0019 or via email at

Representative Jon Richards
19th Assembly District

  1. I don’t understand why this person would close down a public site. I thought we are for the people , by the people , and he was elected by the people. What is really going on. So what’s next? . I am truly an American of substance, to cut me off with needed questions I may have needed answered makes me think this persons intentions are to aggravate me as a public which I am part of.
